Last month saw the release of Dear Diary, a five-track EP created in close collaboration with Rochelle Williams, an artist I’ve worked with for the past five years. The project follows the success of Loving On Myself, a single we released in November 2023 that has since amassed over five million streams across platforms and became a pivotal moment in Rochelle’s artistic journey. Our collaboration began years ago recording at Endell Street Studio in Covent Garden, where I was working at the time, but over the last couple of years our process has shifted entirely to a remote workflow following my relocation to Brighton. Despite the distance, the way we work together has become even more focused and intentional. For Dear Diary, Rochelle would send over beat references to set the tone for each song, and I would then create a series of beats until we found something that truly resonated. Once a direction was locked in, Rochelle would write and record her vocals in London before sending the sessions back to me for additional production, mixing, and mastering. The process is highly collaborative, with a lot of back-and-forth and careful attention given to every decision, from arrangement to sound design to final balance. Both of us are deeply invested in getting each song to the best possible place, and that time and care is reflected across the EP.
